TWO-DAY TRAINING OF COUNTY MANAGERS, PLANNERS AND URBAN PROFESSIONALS WITHIN COUNTY GOVERNMENT IN KENYA, ON GIS AND REMOTE SENSING

The Centre for Urban Research and Innovations (CURI), held a two-day training of County managers, planners and urban professionals on GIS and Remote Sensing. This training was part of the Centre’s core objective of Capacity Building and Continuous Profession Development (CPD). The training took place in the University of Nairobi, Chiromo Campus, from 5th to 6th of December 2016.

The month of September, 2016 saw the Centre engage with the residents of Kiandutu and Mukuru Viwandani informal settlements in Phase II of the IDRC sponsored project dubbed “Unlocking the Poverty Penalty, and Upscaling the Respect for Rights in Informal Settlements”.

CURI Training County Managers on GIS and Remote Sensing

The Centre for Urban Research and Innovations is holding a two day training for County Managers mainly CHef Officer, Planner and Surveyor on GIS and Remote Sensing. The training will take place between 5-6th of December at the University fo Nairobi, Chiromo Campus. The Centre is expecting over 30 participants from the Counties.

CURI REPRESENTED AT THE TOWN AND COUNTY PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE 2016 HELD ON 9TH - 10TH NOVEMBER 2016, REEF HOTEL, MOMBASA, KENYA

The Town and County Planning and Development Conference was held from 9th -10th November 2016 at Reef Hotel Mombasa. The conference also marked the World Town Planning Day. The late Professor Carlos Maria della Paolera of the University of Buenos Aires to advance public and professional interest in planning, both locally and abroad, founded the international organization for World Town Planning Day in 1949.  Since then, the World Town Planning Day is celebrated each November. This has become a special day to recognize and promote the role of planning in creating sustainable communities.

What Isn't Emali Town

Emali town is a small town that lies along the Northern Corridor, in both Makueni and Kajiado Counties. A larger commercial part of the town lies in Makueni County while the section in Kajiado County is predominantly for residential use. The Mombasa - Kampala Railway and now the Standard Gauge Railway act as town’s border of Kajiado and Makueni County.

ADVANCING TOWARDS INTEGRATED URBAN PLANNING; EMALI URBAN STUDIO

The Centre for Urban Research and Innovations in collaboration with the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Nairobi and Makueni County Government have embarked on a learning experience of an Urban Studio in Makueni’s commercial hub of Emali. The studio is the first of it kind in Makueni County and its collaborative in nature therefore allowing for information sharing and learning exchange between the Univerity of Nairobi and Makueni County.
