Street Design for Ruiru Town

On 14th June 2016, the University of Nairobi, in collaboration with Kiambu County, NAMSIP, UN-Habitat and ITDP organized a meeting for street design in line with the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for Ruiru. The meeting was held at UN Habitat, and was attended by representatives of Kiambu County, Nairobi Metropolitan Service Improvement Project (NaMSIP), Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), UN-Habitat and University of Nairobi.

The meeting purposed to deliberate on innovative and participatory approaches to design of streets and public open spaces, through presentation of design proposals and review of international best practices. During the review of the designs and best practices, the meeting agreed on enhancement of community participation and promotion of a collaborative effort between architect, urban planners and ordinary people in designing for street.
